THE SHOOT OF DAVID,
A SPROUT COMING FORTH FROM
THE STUMP OF JESSE,
A BRANCH FROM JESSE’S ROOTS,
THE ROOT OF JESSE,
A TENDER PLANT
GROWING UP BEFORE JEHOVAH
AND A ROOT OUT OF DRY GROUND,
THE FRUIT, AND
A GREEN FIR TREE

OUTLINE

  1. The Shoot of Jehovah:
    1. Typifying the sprouting of the divinity of Christ in Him:
      1. Coming out of God as the branching out of God Himself.
      2. Being the sprouting and development of God in Christ’s humanity.
    2. Also typifying the divinity that sprouted in Christ to develop unto the expression of the glory and beauty of His divinity:
      1. From His incarnation to His entering into glory in His resurrection.
      2. Passing through His ascension to attain to His beauty and glory in the kingdom age.
  2. The Shoot of David:
    1. Typifying the development and growth of Christ’s humanity:
      1. Being the development and growth of Christ in His birth as the Son of Man and in His humanity.
      2. Being the development and growth of humanity in Christ’s divinity.
    2. The development of Christ’s humanity to attain to the consummate glory in full in eternity:
      1. Being related to the development of His divinity that He may be One who is glorified in divinity and humanity.
      2. Eventually attaining to the consummate glory in full in the New Jerusalem in the new heaven and new earth.
  3. A sprout coming forth from the stump of Jesse:
    1. Typifying Christ:
      1. As the son of Jesse.
      2. As the son of David.
    2. Indicating the history of Christ’s becoming a man in His humanity.
  4. A branch from Jesse’s roots.
  5. The root of Jesse.
  6. A tender plant growing up before Jehovah and a root out of dry ground.
  7. The fruit.
  8. A green fir tree.
