THE TEMPLE
OUTLINE
- The temple being the consummation of the tabernacle.
- The building of the temple being David’s desire:
- David typifying the suffering Christ, who fought for the kingdom of God.
- David’s preparation for the building of the temple.
- God not wanting David to build the temple directly.
- God desiring that Solomon would build the temple for Him:
- Solomon typifying the resurrected Christ, who is for the building of the dwelling place of God in the peace of His resurrection.
- Solomon’s building of the temple typifying Christ’s building of the church.
- The temple typifying Christ and the church:
- The typology of the temple being the same as that of the tabernacle.
- The temple typifying the individual Christ as the dwelling place of God:
- Christ becoming flesh to be the tabernacle of God and the temple of God.
- Christ building up His Body in resurrection.
- The temple typifying the corporate Christ—the church—as the dwelling place of God:
- Christ in His resurrection building up His individual body into the corporate Body—the church.
- The corporate Body of Christ being the new creation in resurrection.
- The corporate Body of Christ being spiritual and mystical.
