FROM ABRAHAM TO JOSEPH
- In Abraham is seen God’s calling, God’s promise, justification by faith, the living by faith, and the living in fellowship with God:
- God’s calling.
- God’s promise:
- To make Abraham a great nation.
- To bless Abraham.
- To make Abraham and his seed a blessing to all the families of the earth.
- Justification by faith.
- Living by faith:
- Building an altar.
- Pitching a tent.
- Fighting for the brother.
- Living in fellowship with God:
- Communion with God on the human level.
- The offering of Isaac.
- In Isaac is seen the inheriting of grace and the resting and enjoying:
- Inheriting grace:
- Born of grace.
- Grown in grace.
- Being the heir in grace.
- Inheriting the promise given to his father.
- Resting and enjoying.
- In Jacob is seen God’s selection, the transformation in life, and the maturity in life:
- God’s selection:
- Before his birth.
- Not of his own works, but of God who calls.
- The transformation in life:
- Being dealt with.
- Being met by God and receiving God’s promise.
- Being broken.
- Being transformed.
- The maturity in life:
- The heart numb, but the spirit revived.
- No begging after arriving in Egypt.
- Blessing people.
- In Joseph is seen the reigning aspect of the maturity in life:
- Joseph’s life being a part of Jacob’s generation.
- Joseph being given the authority to reign.
- Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, including Joseph, being three aspects of a complete experience in life.
