CHAPTER FOURTEEN

THE SPIRIT'S WORK ON AND IN
THE BELIEVERS

(6)

THE TRANSFORMING OF THE SANCTIFYING SPIRIT

Scripture Reading: Rom. 12:2b; 2 Cor. 4:16, 11; Phil. 3:10; 2 Cor. 3:18b; Phil. 3:12-14; Col. 3:10-11; Eph. 4:16

OUTLINE

  1. The Spirit's transforming is the working out of the Spirit's renewing:
    1. Transforming is by renewing—Rom. 12:2b.
    2. Renewing is to deal with the oldness.
    3. Transforming is to bring forth Christ in newness.
  2. Transforming is a metabolism:
    1. To bring in the new element — the riches of the Triune God embodied in Christ.
    2. To discharge the old element — the rotten things of Adam.
  3. Transforming is a process through death and resurrection:
    1. Bringing our old man through the death of Christ — 2 Cor. 4:16.
    2. Carrying on our new man in the resurrection of Christ — 2 Cor. 4:11; Phil. 3:10.
  4. Through the Lord Spirit—2 Cor. 3:18b:
    1. Through the pneumatic Christ in resurrection.
    2. Through the life-giving Spirit as the reality of the resurrection of Christ.
  5. For the growth and maturity of the seeking believers:
    1. By pursuing Christ —Phil. 3:12.
    2. By forgetting the things behind and stretching forward to the things before —Phil. 3:13.
    3. To reach the goal and gain the prize —the experienced Christ —Phil. 3:14.
  6. For the constitution of the members of the new man and the building up of the Body of Christ:
    1. For the constitution of the members of the new man— Col. 3:10-11.
    2. For the building up of the Body of Christ —Eph. 4:16.
