THE DEFINITION OF OUR SPIRIT

OUTLINE

  1. We being created by God a tripartite being—1 Thes. 5:23; Heb. 4:12b:
    1. With a body formed of the dust, as our outward frame —Gen. 2:7a.
    2. With a spirit produced of God's breath, as our intrinsic organ, ranked with the heavens and the earth—Gen. 2:7b; Zech. 12:1b; Isa. 42:5.
    3. With a soul, the issue of our spirit being added to our body, as our self in between our body and our spirit — Gen. 2:7c; Luke 9:23-25.
  2. Our spirit being particularly created by God as our particular organ— Gen. 2:7b:
    1. With the breath of God— Job 32:8.
    2. As the lamp of Jehovah—Prov. 20:27.
    3. For us to worship God— to contact and contain God— John 4:24; 2 Tim. 4:22a.
    4. For us to receive God as life and to express God—Gen. 2:9b; 1:27.
    5. For us to be joined to God as one spirit —1 Cor. 6:17.
  3. The composition of our spirit:
    1. The conscience —Rom. 9:1; cf. Rom. 8:16.
    2. The fellowship— John 4:24; Rom. 1:9; Luke 1:47.
    3. The intuition—1 Cor. 2:11; Mark 2:8.
